GhostBond vs Walker Tape: Which Hair System Adhesive Is Right for You?

GhostBond vs Walker Tape: Which Hair System Adhesive Is Right for You?

GhostBond vs Walker Tape: Which Hair System Adhesive Is Right for You?

If you have spent any time researching hair system adhesives, you have almost certainly come across two names more than any other: GhostBond (Professional Hair Labs) and Walker Tape. They are the two most widely used brands in the world, and both have earned their reputation for good reason. But they are not the same, and choosing between them is not as simple as picking the one you have heard of the most.

This is an honest comparison from my point of view as someone who have used both.  Not a product page, not a manufacturer's description. If you are in Australia and trying to figure out which adhesive belongs in your maintenance kit, this is the guide for you.

The core difference: water-based vs acrylic-based

The most important distinction between GhostBond and Walker Tape adhesives is not the brand - it is the chemistry.

GhostBond adhesives (by Professional Hair Labs) are water-based. Walker Tape's brush-on glues, bare Great White - are acrylic-based. This single difference affects how they perform in heat, how they respond to sweat, how long they hold, and how you remove them.

GhostBond

Walker Tape glues

Firms up in heat - holds better as temperature rises

Can soften in high heat - bond may shorten

Sweat resistance

Great - moisture does not break the bond down quickly

Hold duration

1–4 weeks depending on formula

2–6 weeks in optimal conditions

Removal

C22 Solvent or GhostBuster - clean and straightforward

C22 or Rapid Release - requires proper technique

Best Australian climate

Hot, humid - QLD, WA, NSW summer months

Cooler, drier - southern states, mild conditions, autumn/winer

Beginner friendly

Yes - forgiving and consistent

Less so - requires more precise application

When to choose GhostBond

GhostBond is the right choice for most Australian wearers, particularly if you are:

In a warm or humid climate (Queensland, NT/WA, coastal areas)

Physically active - gym, sport, outdoor work

New to hair system adhesives and building your routine

Someone whose scalp runs naturally oily

       Prioritising comfort alongside hold strength

Within the GhostBond range, there are three main formulas to choose from:

GhostBond Supreme

The extended-wear option, with added matte effect for less shine. Same trusted water-based formula, calibrated for maximum hold duration between maintenance sessions.

GhostBond Platinum

The specialist for oily scalps and high humidity. If you are in a tropical climate, sweat heavily, ot have had other adhesives fail in summer, Platinum is engineered for these conditions.

GhostBond XL

The best all-rounder. Strong water-based formula that handles everyday Australian conditions reliably. This is our most popular adhesive and the one we recommend as the starting point for most wearers.

When to choose Walker Tape

Walker Tape's adhesive range is much broader than GhostBond's, it covers both tapes and brush-on glues, which is one of their strengths. Walker Tape is a strong choice if you are:

In a cooler or drier climate (Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, or during winter)

An experienced wearer comfortable with precise application and removal

Looking for the longest possible hold duration and prepared to use scalp protector

Using tapes rather than glue as your primary bonding method

Working in a professional salon environment where consistency matters most

The Walker Tape adhesives worth knowing:

Walker Tape Ultra Hold Glue

Professional-strength brush-on adhesive. Strong, reliable, and trusted by salons worldwide. Best in moderate conditions with proper scalp prep.

Walker Tape Great White Pro

A water-based alternative within the Walker Tape range. A white formula that dries clear. A good middle ground for wearers who want Walker Tape's professional pedigree with gentler chemistry.

Walker Tape ultra Hold Tape

Much like its liquid version, ultra hold tape is a strong, reliable and flexible professional-strength tape designed for extended wear in Australian conditions. with multiple sizes and contours avalible to match your personal needs.

Can you use both?

Absolutely! and many experienced wearers do, myself included. A common combination is GhostBond Supreme or Platinum as the main adhesive for a natural looking hairline with Walker Tape no shine or ultra hold tape around the perimeter for precision and a natural finish. The two brands are fully compatible and many of our customers stock products from both.

The honest recommendation

If you are in Australia looking at glue bonding and you are choosing between these two brands for the first time, start with GhostBond Xl glue. It is the more forgiving formula in Australian conditions, easier to apply consistently, and handles the humidity and heat that most of the country deals with for a significant portion of the year.

Once you have your routine dialled in and you know what you are looking for, explore Walker Tape's range, particularly for tapes, where they have no equal.
